Proud as Punch, National Volunteer Week (21- 26 May) – Making a world of difference

By Erica Proposch, May 15 2019

We value and recognise the contribution of all our volunteers at Marriott.

We are proud as punch to announce that two of our longest serving volunteers will be recognised at the City of Glen Eira Community Awards night– Paul Humphreys for 10,000 hours of service and Helen Baddeley for 10 years of service.

Since retiring Helen has been an active volunteer and from 2006, when she moved closer to Marriott and as her cousin, Martin was attending, she enquired about volunteering with us.

13 years later and Helen has been arriving weekly to take someone for a cuppa and chat to the local shops or for a visit to the library. Helen will be the first to say “I don’t do much”. Ah but Helen, you make a world of difference to the people you chat to over a cuppa – you give your time and friendship. Thank you.

Helen and Martin.

Paul Humphreys after some years working at Marriott Support Services developing Quality Management and Occupational Health and Safety Systems resigned to allow some urgent surgery on his knees.

At the time he said, “I will be back”, wishing to continue his connection with Marriott. True to his word, Paul returned with his sparky lover of life energy to volunteer every Thursday to help out in the swimming groups at GESAC and then with the garden crew in the arvos, often providing one on one companionship over watering and weeding. Thursday for Paul is his day of continued connection with everyone at Marriott.

Thank you. Hearts of gold and ones that give.

We are so proud and appreciative of you. #NVW2019
