James pursues his art, thanks to NDIS.
At Marriott Support Services we support people with disability to find and keep a job. https://www.marriott.org.au/supported-employment/
Like James who has worked in crews with Enviro Management Services for over 10 years and during that time he developed new skills, confidence and has been a positive crew member.
Since 2015 James has also been developing his artistic skills with Arts Project Australia https://www.artsproject.org.au/
Arts Project Australia is located in Northcote with a studio of over 120 artists and is open 6 days a week. Their manifesto reads,
‘We are a centre of excellence that supports artists with intellectual disabilities, promoting their work and advocating for their inclusion within contemporary art practice’.
Among James’ work is a recently completed mural at Merri Park, using his unique style to integrate art with the parkland location, take a look at the transformation. https://www.artsproject.org.au/james-macsporran-creates-mural-merri-park/
With the NDIS James has been able to increase his time at Arts Project Australia so he can be more focused on pursuing his art. While we are sad to see James leave Marriott but are delighted he has this new opportunity to develop his future in art. We look forward to seeing more of his art in public.
Dave Fraser, EMS Operations Manager summed it up well as James was farewelled on Friday, ‘I’m sad to see him go, but over joyed because he can choose his own pathway’.
The NDIS brings opportunities to pursue long held goals like James and to build capacity to achieve goals, what is the goal you would love to pursue?
At Marriott we support people to lead connected, healthy and independent lives through a wide range of supports.
James with Raymond Lee, Divisional Manager of Enviro Management Services. Well done James and all the best.
