The state of volunteering in the disability sector

In a recent ABC News report on falling numbers of people offering to volunteer in the disability sector.

It suggested that people think the NDIS roll out means that their volunteering is no longer needed.

Marriott CEO Dan Romanis says this is certainly not so – indeed the need for volunteers is continuing and growing.

“Last year we welcomed the support of over 100 volunteers at Marriott Support Services. Those wonderful people gave of their time, skills and experience in a raft of different ways, including supporting individuals, developing our social enterprises, assisting with recreation and training, and bringing administration and marketing skills.

While introduction of the NDIS is an important step in better addressing the aspirations and needs of people with disability, our volunteer program is a vital, thriving part of our Service. The NDIS means that we can offer more opportunities for people to pursue and achieve their goals and aspirations and volunteers are a core and valued part of doing this effectively.”

We always welcome enquiries from individuals interested in volunteering with us and from employers interested in linking up with our corporate volunteers program. We provide ongoing support and training for new volunteers, according to their needs.

Join our vibrant Volunteer Program next year, here are some ready-to-go opportunities:

Gardening in our kitchen garden
Cooking in our fully fitted kitchen
Art program in our renovated space
Administration in our social enterprise at Keys Road
