Building Independence / Employment / Finding and keeping a job

A fresh start for Connie

By Jennifer Lumsden, December 12 2019

Connie recently joined us at Marriott Industries after completing a one-day assessment arranged through an employment agency. She enjoyed the work so much she asked to work here, and quickly found her feet.

Of Greek-Cypriot background, Connie previously worked on a farm picking and packing fruit. But after moving away from that area she found herself out of the workforce for longer than she wanted. Marriott Industries provided the right combination for Connie to re-enter the workforce and enjoy working again.

Connie particularly enjoys being with her peers, as well as the support of Team Leaders such as Bronwyn. She is also managing to improve her English language skills, as there were limited opportunities for her to practice in her previous job. After attending English classes for many years Connie is relishing the opportunity to speak English daily in a friendly working environment and is increasingly confident as a result.

Connie also enjoys the variety of work and the chance to learn new skills and has become a very productive team member. Working in the spice room is by far her favourite activity.

Marriott Industries can provide support for people to step back into employment after a period out of the workforce. We offer supported employment in warehousing, pick n pack, 3PL, product packing, light assembly and dry food packing and bottling.
