Transition to Employment is a program for young adults with a disability, post school, to work towards employment. Located at our Keys Road site in Cheltenham alongside our Australian Disability Enterprises (ADE), allowing the Transition to Employment participants to understand a work environment and appreciate the rules and expectations that surround a workplace.
The program is designed to assist young people with an intellectual disability to plan ahead, set goals and make informed decisions about their future and the range of options they want to explore. Participants are offered the opportunity to trial supported employment through our extensive work experience program. Many use this opportunity to further their skills and as a pathway to open employment.
Transition to Employment is offered as a three year course and is funded through Employment (TTE), a state initiative designed to provide assistance to young people interested in pursuing employment, but who are not yet ready to move into employment or receive assistance through a commonwealth employment program.
Everyone attending the TTE program must:
Have an Intellectual Disability and or Autism Spectrum Disorder
Be over 18.
Have allocated DHS funding package or are willing to use a pay for fee service
Be able to travel to and from the program independently
Attend from 9am – 3pm Monday through Friday
Be able to be left unsupervised for short periods
Have a work focus
Be willing to participate in work experience and explore job interests or opportunities
Be willing to give a number of options a try
Be willing to participate in programs and work to improve their skills
Have the ability to work with minimum support
Not engage in bullying or aggressive behavior towards other people (this can include text messaging, phone calls and emails)
Behave appropriately when out in the community
All participants are expected to abide by our code of conduct and will begin with a three month probationary period.
